The Satellite Orbit Control course deals with theory, methods and applications of various issues in orbit control. The satellite is treated as a point mass. The orbit control issues are basic maneuvers (orbital change, station keeping, intercept and rendezvous) and controlling mission-related properties (like sun-synchronous and Earth-repeat properties). Natural perturbations (drag, solar radiation pressure, Earth oblateness and third body), are considered. The control methods include linear and nonlinear feedback control laws. Optimal control, based on Pontryagin Minimum Principle, is also discussed. The controllers that are considered are pulse thrusters and continuous thrusters. In addition, control based on utilizing natural forces (atmospheric and solar radiation) are also discussed.
