Hi guys,

Since today we’ve covered a lot of information, this is the email to recap our progress so far.

We’ve finally delved into our last unit on Extracting key components of scientific studies.

You read the scenario:

Then we learned about the structure of academic papers:

And completed exercise 1 in activity 1:

Then we switched over to checking your home work with Activity 2:

Where we had time to check the answers to exercise 1 and exercise 3. Next time we’ll check the rest, so if you haven’t yet, please complete exercises 2, 4 and 5. Exercise 2 requires you to elicit components of a study and put them into a summary.

Lastly, we focused on reading the instructions to the last oral joint presentation task:

This one’ll be graded according to the criteria outlined here:

Reread the instructions and arrange to present on any of the following class dates. There are 3 more classes for us to have so please put your effort into making every class count. Each presentation will be accompanied by an active listening session carried out by the audience. Each student will be expected to comment on two other presentations. Revisit the instructions and grading rubric for the live audience here:

It also goes without saying that the guidelines for presentation preparation outlined at the top of our Moodle page must be followed, and joint presentation phrases need to be utilized to reinforce the delivery:

You may use any structure from ones we’ve adopted earlier, or come up with your own, including an introduction, a body and a conclusion.

On the same dates we will also complete more activities from unit 5 to get a clear understanding of the exam structure. Have a peaceful and fruitful week. See you next time!
